With pre-configured content, the Dutch Diakonessenhuis hospital aims at regional cooperation and patient participation

Today, the Diakonessenhuis hospital in the Dutch city of Utrecht took a big step toward modernizing and expanding its IT support. With its choice for HiX's pre-configured content, the hospital aims at automated innovation, more regional data exchange, and giving the patients more control.

With this pre-configured content, the Diakonessenhuis, which has been using HiX since 2017, now has standardised EHR content that is continuously kept up-to-date. This varies from reporting options to full order workflows, specialist questionnaires, score lists, built-in guidelines, decision support, multimedia, widgets, and links that facilitate data deliveries. HiX offers this content structured and integrated within a single EHR.

Regional cooperation

The hospital also uses the pre-configured content to focus more on healthcare outside of the hospital, for example with remote monitoring, video consultations, and coaching. It also makes data exchange with other healthcare organisations in the region more efficient, and it allows physicians to easily retrieve information from e-Health systems and personal digital health environments. This way, they can access up-to-date medical information at any time.

More control for the patient

An online patient portal allows patients to take direct control over their healthcare process through an online patient portal. Patients of the Diakonessenhuis can use this online portal to view their own medical data, make appointments, and request repeat prescriptions. This patient participation increases the patients' involvement and saves the hospital valuable time.

PDMS and various apps

In addition to the above-mentioned benefits, with the expansion of the EHR, the Diakonessenhuis now has a closed-loop patient monitoring system (PDMS) and it paves the way for the roll-out of apps for physicians, nurses and the sterile services department. Furthermore, its capacity management modules enable the hospital to organise rooms, resources and staff more efficiently.

"Great for patient and staff"

"This totally fits the way our hospital always puts patients first," says Martijn Wiesenekker of the Board of Directors of the Diakonessenhuis. "We not only give our patients the best possible treatments, we also want treatments to be as pleasant as possible. And with this new EHR expansion, patients can do more from home, whenever it is convenient for them. It also relieves our staff of a lot of administrative duties, giving them more time to spend at patients' bedsides."
